Emily Jones || July 6th
This weekend sees the return of the eighth Alsager Music Festival, a free two day festival taking place on the 9th and 10th July.
Everything kicks off at 12pm on Saturday in Milton Park, where a variety of acts will be performing across three different stages. There’ll be a bar serving real ales from local breweries, food and drink outlets, craft and charity stalls and the all important merchandise stall. If you prefer your pubs, you’ll find The Mere Inn a short walk away from the festival site, with even more live music to enjoy. And once things are wrapped up over at Milton Park, the Bank Corner Takeover will keep you dancing long after LazyEye close the main stage.
The best way to recover from the night before is to head to your local, grab a pint and enjoy some laid back live music. That’s exactly what you can do on Sunday at The Lodge Inn from 12pm through to 9pm, with nine live acts to ease you out of your hangover and into your Sunday afternoon.
With over 40 acts from around the local area and beyond including LazyEye, Sugar Rush, Dirty Money No. 5, In The Cards, One Million Fingers, Oli Ng and The Vagabonds, The Taskers, Venus Rising and Alex Tweedie, Alsager Music Festival is set to be just as triumphant as previous years. Let’s hope the sun is shining for what promises to be a truly wonderful two day free festival.
I caught up with a few of the acts, to see how they’re feeling about the festival:
LazyEye: We're really looking forward to next Saturday night as it's always great to be asked to play local festivals. It will be our first time here so to be asked to headline is brilliant! We've had a busy year working on new music, so we can't wait to get what we've been doing out there! Fingers crossed for the weather aye!
Dirty Money No. 5: We are really excited about playing the main stage at this years Alsager Music Festival. We played the Marquee Stage a couple of years ago which, for a 6 piece outfit, was a pretty snug fit. We hope the sun gods are kind to everyone this year.
In The Cards: Last year we played at the Alsager Music Festival for the first time and loved the energy and the atmosphere around the event – it’s really the one that everyone wants to play and everyone wants to go to, so we are very excited and grateful to be performing on the main stage this year. We’ve got some new stuff to play from our forthcoming EP and so we really can’t wait!
Captain Stingray’s Groove Machine: Having attended Alsager Music Festival a few years running it's very exciting to get ourselves on the bill, especially as a relatively new band. We think our upbeat, world inspired grooves will be perfect for an afternoon slot, especially if it's sunny, fingers crossed - we’re on the Marquee stage just after 2pm. This will also be our first gig featuring our full 7-piece line-up consisting of two percussionists, saxophone, keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. We cannot wait to blast our full sound out to the festival goers. Our 30-45 minute Alsager festival slot is just a little taster of what’s to come and if people like what they hear, then they are welcome to join us at The Regent, in Fenton, from 9pm on the same eve (Saturday 9th July) for a full 2 hour show! If we have time, we hope to catch band Moitessier, also on the Marquee Stage, for their first show in a while.
Tirade: We are buzzing to be back at Alsager Music Festival! We played in 2015 on the Marquee Stage and performed our set acoustically. Now we are back for 2016 on the Main Stage as a full band, crazy! Alsager Music Festival is a really great festival, with so many awesome bands and stages only a few seconds walk away from each other, can't wait to play!
Release: Alsager Music Festival is placed closely to my heart as it was where I played my first gig back in 2k12. Me and the rest of the Release boys are buzzin to be playing for a second year. Big up AMF.
Greg Murray and The Seven Wonders: We have never played at Alsager Music Festival before but lots of friends have recommended we play as they figure we'll go down a real treat. We have a few surprises for the day to bring a real party atmosphere. Let's pray for good weather on the day and a stage big enough to hold us - either way we'll be having the best craic. I love playing live together with the best friends I could ever dream of and every performance, we always end up in fits of laughter! The main aim is getting the audience involved where we can. You know we try to match each performance to every audience we play to, in order for them to have a great time. We always make it different and personal.
Pete Shirley: Yeah really excited to be performing at Alsager music festival for the first time. I feel honoured to be sharing the stage with so many great artists. I'll be playing a few songs from my album sunset Katy, as well as one or two new ones as well.
Oli Ng and The Vagabonds: This will be my 3rd Alsager Music Festival in a row and I'm excited to bring my new backing band 'The Vagabonds' to one of the best local festivals around!
The Taskers: The Taskers are really looking forward to playing at Alsager Music Festival. We've not played there for two years so it'll be great to be back. We're hitting up The Lodge on the Sunday and we'll be playing new tracks from our upcoming album Wolf Party. It's going to be great.
The Kings Pistol: We are always happy to play new venues and love how varied each gig we do is, from tiny packed out pubs to outdoor gigs in the wind and rain. We’re looking forward to our first time at Alsager and seeing some of the other acts.
